Ayurveda, which means “Knowledge of Life” is perhaps the most ancient Science of Health known to man. Ayurveda has its roots deep in Nature but it evolved through centuries of research by sages determined to unearth the secrets of Nature for the benefit of suffering mankind. It advocates a life in tune with Mother Nature … and when Man, by going against Nature, opens the gateway to diseases, Ayurveda offers a system of cure which runs parallel to Nature. However it does not stop short at bodily cure, but goes far beyond, to inculcate a regimen that encompasses the physical, mental and “spirit” planes. Aryavaidyasala was established in 1884 by Vaidya N. Vasudevan Unni, Former Palace Phycian to Sree Moolam Thirunal Maharaja of Travancore and Superintendent of Ayurveda Padasala. Shri. N. Subramonian Unni, the son of Vaidya N. Vasudevan Unni's brother obtained Ayurvedic Wisdom and speciality training from the founder and led the Vaidyasala into a prestigious Ayurvedic organization in Kerala, under the patronage of Dhanwantharidas Cheerattamon Moose of Olessa, one of the Ashta Vaidyas. His sons Dr. S Vasudev and Dr. S. Subramonian Unni established a multi speciality ayurvedic hospital in 1971 as a tribute to Vaidya Vasudevan Unni, the Founder. It is a Mission we can all take up - and succeed."The goal as he asserts, is not an unrealistic one, extrapolating from current growth rates and trends, and suggesting various improvements and directions we can take to boost development. His book India by 2020 says that we can soon be well on the way to providing our citizens with a decent standard of living. Past successes, too bear them out. For example, we were able to produce enough food for our populations through the green revolution, although many international experts scoffed at the notion that India could even be without a begging bowl. In the sophisticated field of space technology we started from scratch to have today a system of satellite-based communication linking remote regions of the country. Initially there were failures in the space programme, but this only motivated our scientists to try harder. The aim and sense of purpose can lead us to success in many other areas. The aim: an India free from poverty, strong in trade and commerce, science and technology, providing health and education to all.
